ORDER OF MERCY - GENERAL CHAPTER - Rome 2022

TRANSLATION

MAY 2

As the the General Chapter of our Order unfolds, we opened the day with the Eucharistic celebration  led by the Mercedarian Province of Castile, inviting us to center our lives on the Lord who calls us and in whom all things are renewed.

After gathering in the chapter room, our brothers began to listen as accounts of our Mercedarian reality in various parts of the world were presented. Therefore we heard about the Castilian Mercedarian presence in the Caribbean which shows forth the richness of a community serving the least and most needy in Caribbean lands. We then listened to our Provinces in southern Latin America. We considered the richness of our Mercedarians in Peru, Chile and Argentina--insofar as Nolasco's charism is brought to life in parishes and schools, in social works and in the effort to form a redemptive mercy—despite the fact that they have been affected by the pain of abuse within the community, and how they proposed to overcome these circumstances through the creation of healthy safe spaces for the smallest and most vulnerable.

In the afternoon session, we continued by hearing from the Roman and Quito - Ecuador provinces. The respective reports were read, capturing with detail and reflection the development of our Order in various apostolic areas, strongly insisting on the optimistic and hopeful perspective of a community rich in its charism and with a great future of service.
