ORDER OF MERCY - GENERAL CHAPTER - Rome 2022

May 10

The developments continue in our XVII General Chapter. As we do every day, we started the day giving thanks to God with the celebration of the Eucharist. Today the Mass was led by the Province of Aragon and presided over by the Reverend Father Friar José Zaporta, Vicar Provincial of the Central America Vicariate. On this occasion, and enlightened by the Word of God, his exhortation focused on joyfully embracing each day that mission that the Lord has entrusted to us, being instruments of life and freedom in the midst of the world.

Gathered in the Capitular sessions, today's task was to concretize the objectives specified for each one of the areas of our Mercedarian life, namely: Religious Life; Vocations, Formation and Studies; Pastoral Life; Government and Economy. The process was accomplished successfully through the collaboration and approval of all those present.

May the Lord continue to grant each one of us to listen and be available, to incarnate in our Mercedarian journey that redemptive longing of all His children.

We continue on the path of our Chapter itinerary. On Wednesday we continued with the planning of this coming 6 years of our community. Thus, in the morning we celebrated the Eucharist led by the Province of Castile. Father Damase Masabo was the principle celebrant. He encouraged us to continue living our charism in a postmodern world that challenges us and awaits our redemptive response.

In the morning Capitular session, we focused on the meaning of the Synodal journey that our Church is experiencing. The topic was led by the Jesuit Sr. María Luisa Berzosa, who encouraged us to continue committing ourselves, as an ecclesial community, to dialogue with the world, and take up that great mission of Jesus Christ, the joy that accompanies the hearts of all his children.

In the afternoon, the work of the chapter focused on reviewing and specifying the presented proposals , which will be voted on the following day, thus giving greater configuration to the Order’s program in the coming years.

Well on the way to the final part of our XVII General Chapter, this Thursday we started the day by giving thanks to God in the Eucharist. The principle celebrant from the Province of Mexico was Fr. Agustín Lara, Vicar of Honduras, who invited us to live our Mercedarian consecration in the confidence and joy that the Lord Jesus gives us.

The day’s work of the Chapter focused on the reviewing of and the voting on the proposals that were presented in this communitarian moment.

We thank God for granting us to take the steps required of the Order of Mercy in these times. We also thank all those who have sustained us with their prayers during these days.
